| Return to Course Schedule During
this week, we look intensively at Infectious Disease Problems at both the clinical and
community levels. We analyze programs for clinical and community control of these
prevalent diseases, debating the relative merits of vertical (categorical, selective) vs.
horizontal (primary care, Health for All) program approaches.
 |
Four sets of actual clinical infectious disease cases seen at district
hospitals and their related community health problems are solved by the small groups.
Practical infectious disease epidemiology exercises relate to these disease units.
|
| We conclude this week with an educational visit to
Nogales Sonora, Mexico border at the "ambos Nogales." to explore issues of health, environment and
global economy . We will be visiting a maquiladora (U.S. factory in Mexico),
a health clinic, speak with Mexican nationals about the health,
environment and economy. |
 |
We arrange home stays for the two nights; we will be
in Mexico with a group of women and their families. These women are
involved in community micro-credit banking. The weekend is
not mandatory, but we recommend it for all (even our Tucson
residents!) This trip has been rated very highly by our students. |
