Financial Support for International Health Opportunities
American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Funding and Fellowships
Application due May 1 - Benjamin H. Kean
Traveling Fellowship in Tropical Medicine. Provides travel expenses for medical
students, house staff and fellows who arrange clinical or reserach electives in tropical
areas. Round trip airfare and up to $700 toward living expenses will be provided.

MAP International Medical Fellowship
MAP International, through a grant from the founders of Reader's Digest, DeWitt and Lila Wallace, sponsors third and fourth year medical students by funding travel arrangements for medical students to their chosen destination.

The Department of International Health at Boston University School of Public
Health is pleased to offer several competitive, 50% tuition scholarships for
members of the NGO (Non Governmental Organization) and PVO (Private Volunteer
Organization) community towards attendance in one of our 3 intensive certificate
programs. Scholarships will cover 50% of the cost of tuition. Recipients will
need to fund the balance of tuition, material fees, transportation and living

American Medical Woman's Association (AMWA)
AWHS OVERSEAS ASSISTANCE
GRANT:
The American Women's Hospitals Service provides assistance with transportation costs
(airfare, train fare, etc. - up to $1,500) connected with pursuing medical studies in an
off-campus setting where the medically neglected will benefit. Grants are awarded to
national AMWA members completing their second, third or fourth year at an accredited U.S.
medical or osteopathic medical school or a resident who will be spending a minimum of six
weeks and no longer than one year in a sponsored program which will serve the needs of the
medically underserved. The program must be sponsored by your school, another school, or an
outside agency or, if there is no sponsor, it must be a program for which your school
takes responsibility

The purpose of the "Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Steury Medical Student Scholarship Fund"

Paul Alexander Memorial Fellowship provides an international public health opportunity in a developing country to a person of promise who seeks direct experience to help them make a career choice. The fellowship is usually used to support work with an Management Sciences for Health (MSH) international public health project for a minimum of two months, although awards are sometimes granted to individually developed plans. Applicants must have received, or intend to receive, a graduate degree within two years of award travel. http://www.msh.org/fellowship
Carole M. Davis Scholarship: This $1000 scholarship is given annually
to honor Carole Davis who was a founding member of IHMEC. She served two terms
on the IHMEC Governing Council and co-authored, along with Ron Pust and Chris
Krogh, one of IHMEC's early publications, Preparing for International Health
Electives: A Mini-Guide to Resources.
This scholarship is given to a student or faculty member from a school that is
an institutional member of IHMEC (University of Arizona College of Medicine is a
member). The award will be based on a statement no more than 1000 words that
describes the international health activity for which the applicant will use the
funding. The project description gives the applicant's background, reason for
the international health activity, learning objectives and anticipated outcomes.
Priority will be to projects is in the areas of IHMEC's goals which are learning
or research activities in emerging countries or disadvantaged populations in
North America. Submission by mid-January - award given end of January.

International Rotation Travel Grants (for pediatric residents): The AAP funds ten (10) five hundred dollar ($500.00) grants to be awarded in the year 2005 to categorical pediatric or combined-training pediatric residents who wish to complete a clinical pediatric elective in the developing world during residency.
